Real Rock & Reel Rock

Desert Rain Boulder

Andy and I went out again yesterday to check out Desert Rain. I had been on this boulder back in April when it felt hot and impossible. We got lucky with the cloud cover, but the line still felt hard. This problem has excellent movement and stands alone on one of the most beautiful boulders in Red Rocks.

Later that evening I joined nearly every other Las Vegas climber for the Fifth Annual Reel Rock Film Tour hosted (for free!) by the Clark County Library on Flamingo.

Some people reading this may have not seen the tour yet, so I don't want to spoil anything, but here are a couple brief highlights:

Origins: The Hulk - A straightforward, simple look at a beautiful wall in the High Sierras. Great contrast between generations.

Down & Out & Under - A whimsical satire fitting for the eclectic cast of characters and strange terrain explored. This film stood out especially because I have never seen this "dramedy" style climbing film done before. Let alone done well.

The Swiss Machine - If you see one of these films make sure it is this one. It transcends climbing.
